Zhen Jiang – “Human passion, winter without”, is an old Chinese saying that Zhen is sharing with us. It means with the coming of winter, every individual had to be fully prepared or else face the consequence of extreme cold. Coming from an extremely impoverished family, preparedness wasn’t possible. When the oil burner finally descended upon their house, winters changed for the family. Zhen’s interest in this piece of wonder gave him the opportunity to learn how to repair broken burners. He helped his uncle and in return received a dime as salary. That was enough for him to buy a book. After becoming an apprentice, Zhen’s life took a turn – he immigrated to a foreign country, the United States. He brought with him his interest in oil burners. After struggling through school with great language difficulties, Zhen got a job offer in New York City and finally was offered an opportunity to attend New England Institute of Technology, Warwick RI.
